With a change of scribe has come a wonderful change in the weather - coincidence, I think not. We had a very touristy day on Friday in Rotorua, first stop the Polynesian Spa. Little bit of history, the spa has been there for 100 (ish) years as people flocked to bathe in the healing thermal springs. Given these health assurances, 50 bucks for a tepid, slightly smelly swim was still in bargain territory.

The museum followed (still rainy at this point) and some further terrifying volcano tales - the town of Rotorua actually sits within the rim of a volcano. We made the short drive to Taupo late on Friday afternoon. A leisurely wander around town and a fun game of crazy golf (which Anna won with the most ridiculous amount of good fortune) rounded off the day.

Bright sunshine and beautiful views over the lake greeted us this morning. Suncream on, we went on a trek out to the Huka falls, a great walk alongside the Waikato river, with the rapids at the end. We spent a relaxing afternoon at the hotel, taking the opportunity to use the pool and sun chairs.

A short drive tomorrow to Napier and then on to Wellington for New Years Eve.

Mum in Marlborough! on

Happy New Year's Eve darlings! I was so pleased to find the latest blog by the new scribe on here this morning (Sunday) and wrote a comment immediately. For some annoying reason it wouldnt send, hence the delay and I'm trying again now from the very buzzy Castle and Ball Hotel in M'boro on the way to Combe Down for NY. So glad that you seem to have found the sun at last. Lets hope you're leaving the rain clouds well and truly behind now. It all looks and sounds so good - love the photos you've posted and the falls look just beautiful. I can't believe that you've been away for 11 days - is it going quickly? Have you met some nice Kiwis? Or travellers? Tomorrow morning at 11 here the New Year will be breaking for you - coffee cups will be raised in a special toast to you for 2013 and I hope you'll feel it across the miles! Much love. :-) xx

It looks SO BEAUTIFUL! I may be sitting very comfortably in your lovely lovely abode, but I am still super jealous.

I'm also suspicious though, Sam after hearing all your amazing golf skills, is Anna actually BETTER than you? Hmm.....
