Sat navs have gone down in my estimation.  I drove down highway 1 to San Francisco.  It was a fabulous road, but because it wasn't the freeway (that's "motorway" in English) the sat nav didn't like it.  It kept "re-calculating" and telling me to turn right - which was over the cliffs and into the ocean.  It picked up a bit later in the journey, springing a nice surprise by directing me over the Golden Gate bridge.  Although it did ask me to turn right half way across.

I'm staying in a slightly decrepit hostel, bang in the middle of the (huge) red light district.  You can walk down the street at 9.00 am and still be offered stuff you'd never dream of.  I went for a drink with a couple of Dutch blokes on the first night and they turned down the offer of a strip show with the immortal line:

"No thanks.  We're from Amsterdam."

I met up with a couple of girls from Hull for a 15 mile walk through the city yesterday.  I said I'd write something nice about them on the blog so here goes.  They had an interesting "artistic" attitude to photography and they were unyielding.  Anyway, when they get back to Hull, they're going to open a John Prescott themed bar / club / casino / brothel with patented dance moves.  If people come and visit me when I'm in Lincolnshire we can go along.

We finished our walk at the Golden Gate (before realising that we had to walk back as well).  It was ok, but we've got a longer bridge at home.

Today I walked to the Coit tower on San Francisco's Telegraph Hill, and got the tram down.  That was the wrong way round to do it.  Especially in view of the 15 mile walk the previous day.  I took the last few steps up the hill one by one, glamorously on my backside.

Anyway - off tomorrow to Sacremento and the search for Arnie.

Dear old fellow Sam how's the hip? hope the travelling has not been too energetic for you, we know you oldies need your rest. We hope you have not been boring others with ye olde tales of the war. Is that all you have to say about us, spent an entire day in our company and the best things to say are about our business enterprise?????! this has distressed us as we have not had time to patent the idea yet, we will give you the crap shares!
Hope you are having a good time, should have come to the Grand Canyon with us, we sang alot!
