It wasn't even a rush! I'm getting used to living out of a rucksack again, although my new one is much better than the one I had last year which was proper rubbish!
After check out, we grabbed some sweets for breakfast from the vending machine and called a taxi to take us to the train station. We were really early for the train we wanted to take, as it didn't leave until 1.15pm, but we thought that best as we didn't yet have tickets to get on the train. We didn't even think about booking them in advance to tell you the truth.
Thankfully there was enough space on the Silver Meteor route up to Washington DC for us, so luck was on our side, the guy at the station even gave us wallets to keep our tickets safe in, which the Miami woman should have done apparantly. So far so good.
Of course though as it is me, something was bound to go wrong, and that was that the train was 45 minutes late! but as it was coming from Miami we should have realised that, we only came from there a few days ago and we were an hour late... I don't understand how they can lose an hour on a trip that should be 4 hours long??? strangeness.
The day was filled with lots of long journey type stuff, like reading, listening to music, some more reading and eating. We had our first meal in the dining car. It was a bit posh, and they wouldn't take it when we left them our change as a tip, they just laughed at us... and told us to keep it! We did have an amusing conversation with a guy while we were waiting for a table though who thought France was in England... very stupid guy, but I now understand why only a small percentage of American citizens have a passport - the rest are too stupid to inflict upon the world!!!
That was the most exciting thing that happened on the whole journey. It was soooo long and boring, and this was only our practice train, it was only 18 hours long.... hmmmm the long one from Chicago to Flagstaff is gonna be a killer. I couldn't sleep at all as it was so loud and rocky and noisy and bright. Rachael faired infinatley better than me which was unfair.
We are meant to arrive in Washington DC at around 7am, we'll see
