Imagine the scene... standing at the bus stop (in the rain) both with not only backpacks, but also daysacks, we are starting to worry as the bus is late, we were already on a tight schedule as it was... this was not helping, when in the distance we see the correct bus heading for us... phew, we were going to make it.
Whilst we were sat on the bus, I noticed that the time on the clock was wrong by an hour, it was an hour later than what it was supposed to be, so I told Rach and we were both like, oh they must not have changed the clock when daylight savings came in, or whatever.... How wrong we were...
When we got to the train station the clocks were also an hour forward, so we asked the woman behind the counter what time it was, and yeah the clocks had gone forward without us being any the wiser... thank you reception at the Tropics hostel for telling us that! our pre booked train had already left... but thankfully we could get on the one that was due to leave in a few hours.
The Amtrak trains are massive things with upstairs on them and everything, with proper dining cars and sleeper rooms and stuff, this was the shortest of our many journeys so we got to see what it was going to be like... not very comfortable for sleeping! even though our seats not only recline but also have a footstool that lifts up to make an almost full length bed.
This train went a slightly different way than the one we were suppposed to get on, via Tampa, it took a few hours longer, but we were going so slow that we lost an hour on the journey... Train travel is defo not for getting somewhere quickly over here, but for the actual journey.
By the time we reached Kissimmee it was almost dark, we jumped into a taxi and headed for the hotel, where we checked in, dropped our bags off then headed out for a wander and to find a supermarket as we were too late to have dinner in the dining room, or we were too cheap too, I can't remember which
To get to the supermarket though we had to cross a road the width of an English motorway, with no actual crossing spot.... risking life and limb and already, and I've only been away a few days!!! we managed to get across OK though and managed to get everything we wanted and back to the hotel in less than an hour.
The hotel is super nice for what we are paying, we have 2 massive double beds, free satelite tv and a microwave of all things in our room, there is also an onsite swimming pool and lots of other amenities, including a free bus to lots of the attractions, which was the other main reason we stayed here - the main reason being the price!
We watched TV in bed eating our dinner of crackers, biscuits and crisps!!! before we both fell asleep. We're going to Sea World tomorrow, in what is hopefully, lots of sunny sun!
