Big day today! Today is the day that I start my next trip away, my new flight of fancy if you will...

It's slightly more complicated this time around though, let me explain more fully waht is going on.

Last year I pretty much just bought a one way flight to Auckland and that was it - I flew to NZ and did my thing before buying a flight and coming home. This time because I had to take someone else in to consideration - Rachael - we decided to do things a little bit differently.

I wanted to not only visit NZ again but I wanted to travel somewhere else too, and as Rachael wanted to visit the states as well as NZ, it was decided that we would travel together and I would go with her, well as far as Auckland anyway.

So our plans are to fly to Miami tomorrow and then work our way overland across the USA using the Amtrak train system, we have already bought an unlimited train travel pass that lets us use as many trains as we want whenever we want - its really good actually, and then a month later we fly out of LA  and over to Auckland, where we have made no plans what so ever!!!

Onto today then...

After the usual rush to get ready, packed and sorted, I finally left the house, and had some dinner with the parents, Teresa wouldn't come though because she had an arguement last night with them about her being pregnant, it looks like I will have a niece or nephew when I get home then.

I met Rachael on time at the train station, and we sat and had a coffee with our families until it was time to go, we almost missed our train though because I thought we were getting a direct one straight to London and had read the board wrong, it was Rachaels fault though really as she hadn't told me we were changing in Doncaster, we were soon on our way, but not before the obligatary tears were shed, this time though it wasn't my mum doing the crying it was Rachael, so the beginning of my trip involved me being very uncomfortable, we all know how awful I am with people that are crying, I just don't know what to do with them - the lack of patience I have with emotion could be the reason why.

So the two train journeys and then the tube ride across London went by pretty uneventfully, I didn't realise it took an hour to get to Heathrow from Kings Cross though - I thought it was much closer than that - and we made it in one piece.

What was to follow though was one of the more hellish 10 hours of my life, 10 hours waiting in the airport for our flight as we were too cheap to spring for a hotel, although in hindsight I kinda wish that I had just paid the money and bought us one, it would've meant that I didn't spend an eternity sat on the floor by a Bob the Builder grabby machine and near a Call of Duty games terminal.... soooo annoying, there was no way in hell that I was ever going to get any sleep...

We also managed to attract a really strange, obviously drunk man - we were sat in Costa taking advantage of their comfy sofas and drinking strong coffee to keep us awake and he just came and sat next to us and started telling us that he has a drinking problem and that his wife was probably going to leave him... he was truely very very strange, and I actually hope his wife does leave him if he acts like that all the time.

The rest of the night was pretty lame in comparison really, we just sat and played cards and talked about nothing as we were both shattered and looking forward to getting off the next day... We did have an amusing time sticking Rachael's picture over the Paris Hilton one on her journal though - hahahaha

See you on the other side...
