Arrived in Uyuni and made our way to a hostel we had been told about on the ´main road´´with hot showers and good beds.  Uyuni is even smaller than Tupiza.  It is also higher, and absolutely freezing at night time.  The swedish guys were staying there too, and we also bumped into the Belgium guys we had met in Salta.  So we spent the evening with them in the only bar in town playing Jenga.
Next day we got up late, and everything was closed for the good friday parades etc.  So we went to the same bar, which is actuaklly like a hostel without rooms, and watched the Motorcycle diaries.  When the tour agencies finally re-opened we went around to find the best one.  We then met up with the Swedish guys, having agreed the night before to go together, and booked for a 3 day trip around the area of uyuni, and ending on the Salt flats.  We decided to do the tour in reverse so that we could end on the Salt flats on the Monday, which was not only my birthday but also one of the Swedish guiys, Freddie.
So once we booked it we all had to go and stock up on warm clothes, so kitted ourselves out with llama socks and hats etc, and the boys purchased some very fetching Ponchos.
I also had to buy a small rucksack, because we couldnt take the big ones and my small one was too small.  So I went to a shoip around the corner and which had suitcases and asked if they had rucksacks.  They called to the shop next door, that was closed, and some little girl about 12 grabbed me by the hand and led me into a tiny little room full of bags.  While I was choosing she then started to tell me I had to go to church otherwise at the end of the world the devil with his serpents would get me!  I think they take religion quite seriously!
Which was proved again later.  Once all that was sorted we went for dinner and where told that they werent allowed to sell alcohol because it was good Friday!  Couldn´t belive it!  So after dinner we all just went back and hung out in the hostel.
Got up bright and early the next day and went to stock up on snacks a drinks before setting of on the trip.
The first day was mainly spent driving through little villages and some rock formations.  We also realised quite quickly we really didnt need as many snacks as we had bought.  The food was brilliant, but we had be warned it was going to be awful.  Think we were very lucky with our cook, Hilda.
Spent that evening, absolutely freezing, drinking and playing cards until about 1.  We had all thought for some reason we were getting up at 8.  But we were actually woken up at 5!
The first stop was to see some Geizers.  Pretty cool, I´ve never seen them before.  Then we stopped of by a lake and had breakfast as the sun rose.  Right next to the lake is a natural hotspring.  So after breakfast everyone stripped off and jumped in, to get warm and have a wash!  No showers in these places.  Was lovely way to start the day.
The rest of the day was spent going to a number of different lakes, all stunning, especially Laguna Verde.  We a puncture at one point, but the driver had obvioudly done this before because it was changed in 10 mins flat.
That evening we were all completely exhasted so after dinner had an early night, as we had been warned this time we were getting up a 4!  And we all wanted to be able to really enjoy the salt flats, and our birthdays!
