Well check out some photos from this very crazy adventure, they are not of me but i will have some soon, and it was hard to take photos while you are riding and concerntrating, with your life in the hands of. . . your hands i guess.
ok so its one of the most talked about things on the gringo trail and i did not realy know what excatly i was getting myself into booking a bike trip down the worlds most dangerous road but i handed out my money anyway!! full pelt down the bicthamen to start with, just to warm you up for the track that is called a road and only wide enough of a truck lety alone a bunch of mad gringos paying good money to fly down on bikes.
we saw at the start of the trip a gathering of locals celebrating, not too sure what they were celebrating something like it being the 1st of august and not many deaths on the road lately by drinking the local corn spirit. a reasuring sight. http://www.gravitybolivia.com/gallery/PhotohighlightsfromtheWorldsMostDangerousRoad?page=1 the first part of the ride is the part where i almost come a gutsa, getting the speed wobbles up in front of a large lorry, the driver being quite amused and me a little more cauitous from there on in. i havent been on a bike for ages let alone going about 40ks down a mountain. bit hard to breathe in places due to . . . . yes the altitude(we were at 4500 at one stage) and my ever lasting cold that i have.
ok so we get to the worlds most dangerous road were the guide tells us not to look over the side, i take this advice on as the drop is over 400metres straight down and one of my worst fears is looking over cliff edges. so they whistle when a truck is coming the other way so you can pull into an alcove and breathe in to let it past(up hill trafffic has right of way) speeding down, not looking to the egde but looking for trucks around the blind corners and rocks in the road. really crazy stuff that i can not even explain in this entry and can not believe i had done, maybe the pictures will say 1000 words.
all i know now is that drivinf though the black spur next time will be a breeze and that my bottom is a bit sore from the seat and my hands from holding on tight to the brakes!!!! More thumbnails ...
