Staying in an older (much) hotel in Downtown Manhattan (17th St). Apparently it was used for the Woody Allen movie Murder in Manhattan. The lift actually has doors with doorknobs outside the lift door.
Have walked across Brooklyn Bridge, been on the Staten Island ferry, seen the Police Museum, been to Times Square, checked out the queue at the Empire State Building (2 hours) and generally seen New York sights.
I was surprised how emotional I felt to stand on the sight of the World Trade Center.
Plan to take a bus to look at lights this evening, not sure about tomorrow - maybe Central Park. Supposed to be very hot and humid. Looking forward to England - hope they don't get a heatwave
R got up early to go up the Empire State Building when it opened at 8am. I've been up it before and I don't like heights anyway.
Then we got a day Metro pass for buses and subway and went to Central Park. Saw the John Lennon memorial and the apartment building where he lived. Then back on the bus for a trip round Harlem and down Riverside Drive and 5th Avenue. A few food and sightseeing trips along the way.
Now finishing this off while waiting for our flight at JFK. Sad to leave the US - but looking forward to the next instalment.
