Serves me right for bragging about the weather. We are now in Washington, DC which has had 8 inches of rain in the last 4 days, and it's still coming. We managed to see some of the sights between showers today, but half of the Smithsonian museums were closed due to flooded basements. We did manage to see the Aerospace museum and braved the rain to walk a LONG way to see the White House, Capitol, Lincoln and Washington memorials.
We were chased away from the front of the White House - hung around at a distance to see a motorcade arrive. Motorcycles before and aft and some black vehicles in between.
DC has now had over 12" of rain since Friday and the mayor has declared a state of emergency. Smithsonian museums still closed. Not sure what we will do today. Anyway - we're fine, just a little damp.
Later - the rain stopped and the sun came out, so it was pretty steamy. More rain forecast this evening. We went to Arlington Cemetery on the subway, then back to the museums but many were still closed. Took a look at the Hirshhorn Modern Art museum.
Tomorrow we have to drive round Washington, then through Baltimore and Philadelphia. Not a nice prospect - these are big, busy roads. Return the car on Friday, then NYC for the weekend. Not sure if the hotel there has Internet access so I may not update this till we are in England next week.
