Have been travelling North through the Appalachians, using the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway. This is a wonderful road which is barred to commercial vehicles and is virtually empty. It runs for over 400 miles along the Appalachians through North Carolina and Virginia. We joined it about 100 miles North up, and will cover most of it to the top in Virginia. We have seen several deer on the road, and there are wonderful views. Some original old cabins are along the way, and a restored mill.
As we didn't want to drive too far off the road to find accommodation we stayed last night in a less than splendid motel in the middle of nowhere (Tuggle Gap to be precise).
We are now in the lovely historic town of Lexington, which you will hear about another day. Motel is new and has a very nice pool, which is where R is right now, and I was till a few minutes ago. Once again, apologies to those freezing in NZ.
