We are now staying with another Freeloader host in Colorado Springs. We have a downstairs apartment with our own fridge and microwave etc, as well as sofa, TV, bathroom, door to the garden. Lovely hostess who has done lots of travelling. We've met her friends, seen some sights, been shopping.
We travelled here via the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National park. Very deep and ominous scenery there. We stayed overnight in the small town of Gunnison before crossing the continental divide via Monarch Pass (over 11,000ft). R then took the cable car even higher - see photos, but it was already high enough for me.
Update
Left Colorado Springs today (Monday), heading East. Stopped at Bent's fort on the way. This has been beautifully restored and is full of old West stuff. Scenery rapidly got flatter, lots of prairie with huge irrigated fields and cattle in pens with all their food provided (see photo). Now in Kansas at a motel. No sign of Dorothy.
