Had a really nice couple of days with R's cousin and his American wife and daughters near Santa Barbara on the Californian coast. The temp was under 30 too which was a nice change. We are now in Ridgecrest, staying with another Internet contact. This is a small town in the Mojave desert. We are here because we planned to drive through Death Valley but the car rental agreement doesn't allow it. We came anyway and had a meal out with our host, Vicki. She is very entertaining and informative so worth the trip. And she has air con.
Great sights driving through desert - red rocks, dry rivers etc. More of the same today as we head to Vegas. Staying in one of the casino hotels, a drastic change of scene!
