Thank god we did cos it was beautiful. Easily the most beautiful scenery in Vietnam so far. A few minor public bus hitches and we were in the hills, cadging a lift from the post bus up into the mountains. Lush, green, hilly views with rice paddies and water buffalo and the picture postcard bamboo thatched village hut. Every corner was a kodak moment.
We got touted at our hilltop destination of Mai Chau and since we didn't have to foggiest of where we going thought it would do. Guesthouse no14 was in the even smaller village of Ban Tre. Just a local family in a stilted bamboo hut. Our bed was the floor, dinner was on the floor, lazing about was on the floor. Really, furniture is like alien over here. They just don't need it.It was kind of posh camping. It was such a nice evening, they cooked for us and gave us tea and they said that 2 of the family could drive us to the border on their motos for 25 dollars each. Being the only option, Paul didn't bargain.
Breakfast at 6.30am to get going to the border...
