Okay, Don and I arrive at Termini Train Station in Rome, Italy.  It was very overwhelming!  This station was HUGE and understandably so.  I asked Don, "So we have two choices from here - take a Taxi or take the subway....are you feeling adventurous?"  Surprisingly Don agreed right away with going for it and doing the subway.  You have to understand this is a pretty gutsy thing for us to do - neither of us speak a lick of Italian and neither of us had much sleep (Don didn't have any) and we had our luggage!

Strangely enough at the time it didn't seem like a crazy decision at all - we only realized how crazy we really were once we woke up from our nap later that day!  We get down to the subway station and use one of those super cool kiosks again and buy our first subway tickets!  Only 1 Euro each - we were shocked - that is a great deal!  Luckily before this trip I did a lot of research and new which line to get on and what stop to get off (oh yeah I am good.)  So, we do just that - but since Termini is such a big station we literally were packed like sardines in the cars and having luggage didn't make things any easier.  I was a little scared - okay pretty scared because I didn't know if I was going to be able to get off the train when we needed to!  I didn't even know how to say "Excuse me" in Italian.  But, it worked out okay.  Now, the tough part.....
We get off at the Spagna Stop - now, this is a pretty big station and there were many different exits.  We kept following the one that would come out on the Via Vineto because (thanks to my trusty map) that street would lead us to our hotel.  But, after going through a few tunnels we reach the end and see the light - but IT IS 4 STORIES OF STAIRS UP!  We couldn't believe it when we saw it - were we really this far down?

Again, weird thing was - at the time with all the excitement of being in a new city - it wasn't that big of a deal to us!  We start climbing and I took a break with my suitcase every story or so.  We reach the top and see the streets of Rome for the first time.  We saw Taxi cabs honking their horns, mo-peds speeding about with crazy drivers driving them and cool fresh breeze that felt so good!!  We were in Rome and it was awesome and we totally didn't care about those steps anymore or all the trains we had been on!

Next problem:  where exactly were we!  We walk to one intersection to find street names and we do but after about 10 minutes we finally figure out where we were.  The problem was we were on the edge of this park so it wasn't clear on the map where we were.  But we figure it out and it was only a 1/2 mile walk to our hotel.  No problem.  We make our way down Via Vento (incidentally one of the most famous and rich designer stores in Italy our found here!) and we both are just taking it all in - the people, the stores, the smells, the sounds....it was cool.

Then we get to the street the hotel is on and we both cheer - yeah okay we were total tourists!!  We totally didn't care at that point what anyone thought - we had made it all by ourselves to the hotel doing it the most complicated way only hours being in the Country - it was a huge accomplishment!
