I next drove down the coastal road to San Francisco. This road is scenic & I was surprised how relatively unspoilt it was. I had kinda imagined the whole California coastline to be built up and overdeveloped, but this was pretty scenic. I arrived in San Francisco and walked the town flat for 3 days. This is no easy feat when the streets are steep as hell and crooked as a politician. The city reminded me a lot of Cape Town - the wind, cold water, touristy waterfront, prison island, steep streets & cosmopolitan, liberal population.
At this point I had a job interview on a yacht in Panama, so I flew down for 3 days to Colon and met the owner & the captain, Jason on Impression. I wasn't too sure I wanted another yachting job so soon after my last one, but I finally agreed after hearing they were going to Galapagos and then Marquises, Tahiti, NZ and Oz. I decided to wrap up my USA trip, so flew back to San Francisco, drove to LA, flew to Boston, stopped off at Portsmouth again, then New York, then back home to SA
