I have decided to head to the bottom and work my way back up in my jaunt around the islands. I arrived to overcast skies in Hilo, which I had expected, as the storm that had buffeted Oahu for the last two days was still hanging around the southern islands. I found that I could not hire a scooter, as was my original intention, as only cars were available at the airport, and it took a while for me to find a rental agency with an economy car available. When I did, I was hit with the Under 25's levy (because obviously anyone under 25 could not possibly be a responsible driver.) I grimaced atthe thought of all that extra money being charged based solely on my age, but the clerk noticed, and she very kindly checked how much the commercial rate was for me, as that only had an age levy for under 21's. It was more expensive than a holiday rental, but less than the$25 per day age penalty I would be subjected to on the holiday rental. She very graciously let me have that rate. I really like Hawaiians.
I managed to negotiate the Wal-mart and the wrong side of the road, and found my way to Pahoa and Hedonesia, where I will be staying, without any trouble. I settled in just as the storm broke again. I did not think that it would rain so much in Hawaii!!
The car I have is actually a pretty cool, it is a Chevy Cobalt, bright red. Its nice and runs smoothly, so I was pleased. As for the rest of the day, since it was pouring with rain, I tried to catch up with my web journal. Hedonesia has muh better rates for the internet than Oahu.
