I slept late today, having not gotten in from work until five am and being utterly exhausted from miniscule amounts of sleep in the last seventy-two hours. However, when I had arranged to go and see Brian I had mentioned that this would be the case, so it was not actually a problem - until I found that I had managed to miss the bus by five minutes and unlike during the week, there is not a regular service at the weekend. I had to wait another hour before I could head out to the North Shore. That was totally my own fault though and after ringing Brian to apologise, I wandered down to the viaduct to wait it out for the bus. Not a big deal really.
I also took my passport with me as one of the tour buses that I will be travelling on was broken into recently and all those people who had left valuables on board while they went for a short walk came back to find that their things had gone. To be honest, I don't leave my valuables unattended like that but I decided that it was not worth the rist, on the off chance that I did decide to do so and lost out because of it.
My afternoon out of the city was exceptionally pleasant, and it was especially lovely to get away from the hostel and the Viaduct, because if I am totally honest, I am completely sick of these two places, and of Auckland central in general. I am sure that if you have disposable income the city can be a lovely place to live, but the truth is that I do not, and there is not much that can be done without money here. I am also getting seriously itchy feet and cannot wait to get back on the road. It was not my itention to stay so long working in one place but the hostel work has saved me a fortune so, I think in the long run it has been worth it, as I am getting close to my target amount and will soon be off, though two weeks still seems like an exceptionally long time.
It was good to see Brian and Mel again, and when the time came I was not too keen to head back into the city, as it was lovely to be in a home again. It is not all that long now though, just four more hostel shifts and I am definately counting down now.
