My first stop of the day (okay it was the afternoon, I slpet in, but that is a disadvantage of living in the basement, it is never light) was to Kathmandu to exchange my trainers. It wasn't a problem, the staff were very helpful, but the only pair in the colour that I wanted was in the New Market branch and as I wanted them today I had to walk over there to get them. This was not problematic, all I had to do was follow Beach Road around from the centre out to New Market. It turned out that this walk was at least thirty minutes long, which I had not anticipated. I could have taken the Link bus, but by walking I was catching up on my lagging training sessions as my fourth day should have been 40mins walking or 25mins swimming, so a brisk (slightly longer walk than expected) contributed to my fitness plan, which will get harder later in the week when I get my top up sessions off Gav. Still, I asked for it and it will be beneficial so I will try not to complain too much...
I also found out again how little I have seen of Auckland in my time here as, when I was walking along Beach Road, I noticed a sign directing traffic to the museum, which is in the Domain and was the opposite direction to that in which I had begun my trek to New Market. Effectively I had done a long loop instead of cutting back and across the Domain. This makes sense from the point of view of the store as it is much easier to tell someone to walk along a single road than direct them to the domain and tell them to make their way to one of a number of roads on the opposite side of the open space, but I was annoyed with myself for not having a little more knowledge when I have lived here for over a month. Still, I was covered for my fourth gym session without even setting foot in the gym and I was mildly back on track, and the store had my shoes put to one side, so it was not all bad - especially as i could cut across the domain on my back to the hostel.
My ne-new trainers also fit very well, and I even broke them in today as well, going to the gym in the evening so that I could catch up as far as possible with my lagging timetable. They were not the only thing either, my muscles were given a pounding by the circuit training as it concentrates on the lift, push and strength of each group, and, not having done much of that for a while, and having never had great upper body strength, I did find it tough. They are not, it seems, quite up to the job. Yet. That however, is why I am going to the gym, and it was good to be reminded of it as it is something definate to aim for, and if it helps with all of the outdoor pursuits that I want to do on the road then so much the better, I would prefer not to be aching whilst I am spending days travelling on buses!
Fingers crossed that it will be worth it!!!!!
