So it has come around again, my full day off, and I was ready for it this week - it has been rather tiring to say the least! I managed to get my act together as well (okay, it was 2pm in the afternoon by the time i did so, but nobody is perfect, and I couldn't put it off any longer) , I went to join a gym in order to do an intensive get fit course for my travels, which are fast approaching once more.

The first gym that I visited was Les Mills, because it is only about a five minute walk from the hostel and does offer backpacker discounts from time to time, such as $20 for a week, but it was not to be this time. There were no special offers and the music was blaring so loudly and with such a dance beat that I was reminded of 'Globogym' from Dodgeball as I stood in line waiting to be told that there were no special offers at this time and that a months' membership would set meback $250 which is more than I wanted to pay to be perfectly honest. Therefore I declined.

Instead I went to the YMCA Tepid Baths gym, which is just down the road from work - inconvienient as it means I have no excuse to not go after work, that I can feasibly present myself with, but with a much more laid back and friendly vibe, which is how I like my gyms - less pressure. It was only $50 dollars cheaper than Les Mills in the end but it was worth it as that is 2 nights accomodation on the road. To my credit (which I mention only because I dislike gyms and go only so that I am fit for the things that I do enjoy) I went straight in to do a "get-back-in-the-swing-and-take-it-easy-session-before-Gav-h ands-you-his-fiendishly-hard-regime, which-by-the-way-is-what-you-stupidly-asked-for' routine.

To be honest, by the time I finished my session I was quite pleased with myself as I didn't feel too fatigued and I was feeling quite confident that I would be able to handle whatever it was that Gav threw at me. Then I got back to the hostel. Oh dear. Once I sat down in the TV room the ache atarted and I realised that I had been prematurely pleased with myself. I really was as unfit as I had thought and the next four weeks will not be the easy ride back to semi-fitness that I was hoping for. Oh well, it will be worth it when I get out and about and the Tongariro Crossing doesn't exhaust me, and four weeks in the gym is really not that big a price to pay for the fun that will later be had in the World's Biggest Playground.
