Or should that be the opportunity for an unexpected extention to my trip? It amounts to roughly the same thing in the end. I made it to work okay, despite the scant sleep I had had due to Harry and his exciting adenture. I have to say that I was glad I had forced myself to have a shower the night before though as I basically fell out of bed and stumbled to work where coffee woke me up. I am not sure I would have been on time if I had needed to wash my hair!
Work was not overly busy (I think that a lot of people were nursing post rugby hangovers as New Zealand had won the night before. I had to ask to find out) but we had a steady trade, which is just the way I like it as it means that I always have something to do and do not have to go home early. More money is more fun later.
The two American blokes who have been coming in all week were in for lunch again today and were so surprised to see me (I have been working virtually every day this week) that they asked whether I just slept out the back and never actually left the bar. They also offered me a job in Florida, saying that they had watched me work all week and had been impressed by my work ethic. If I was ever in Florida, and in need of a job, they said, just let them know and I could have one at their exclusive country club, apartment included.
Thankyou Fern. It is partly because Fern likes us to be busy that I was always doing something when they were in, but I do work hard, and certainly hard enough to warrant the offer, so I was glad of the offer and of the ego boost that the opportunity gave me. Maybe I am not such a bad bar tender after all, though still not the world's best.
The end of my shift came fairly quickly, and I wasted no time in getting back to the hostel and the end of Harry Potter. I was totally unsociable when I got back, and this time, no one disturbed me. I finished my final 200 pages within the next couple of hours and was thoroughly satisfied with the outcome, though the next few days will have their own challenge as I will have to keep schtum about what happens, both for those who don't want to know, and those for whom it will be ruined if I do say anything, even if they want to know. Annoying. Still, not many people read as quickly as I do, so I will be quiet. I know what happens. It was worth the wait.
