I went out for the first time since my arrival in New Zealand last night, and I paid dearly today, having overestimated my severely reduced alchohol tolerance limit after a couple of months without a single drink. It was even worse because I do not usually do not get hangovers, being a responsible type who does not usually overindulge. I zombied my way through a short shift and made my way straight to bed where I remained, nursing my cold and my headache and trying to breathe like a normal person instead of the rasping, drying breath that I have had the last couple of weeks. I believe that one positive my unfortunate overindulgence (partly due to a number of successful bets against a barman that procured free drinks) aspect is that my cold has alleviated. Slightly.
I hae however discovered a new shot (a cowboy, consisting of Butterscotch and Bailey's) which tastes, as my canadian friend rather aptly put it, "like Jesus liquified." I suppose, that in the end they were rather sickly sweet, but they did have a delicious first taste and overall the night had been fantastic. It really helped me to settle in, to banish the bad shifts from the beginning of the week and to relax a little in, what is, for now at least, my home...
The hangover however, was horrible. As I said, it is a very long time since I have had a hangover of any description, and I remember now why I dislike them so much and have made a habit of not having them and I most certainly will not be repeating the experiece any time soon. In truth I prefer a quiet drink anyway, clubbing is good every once in a while, but I spend half my time in a noisy bar now anyway, so I like to have conversations when I am out. My ears are becoming rather delicate. I would like the drums to be intact when I finish my job, it will make adventuring so much easier!!! I had a good night though and caused some hilarity when I arrived back at the hostel and for some inexplicable reason found anything and everything in the reception absurdly funny, and broke down into peals of laughter. The night staff appreciated it, they had been having a dull night until I came home, but I will admit that it was certainly not one of my more sophisticated moments!!!!
