Waterford played Oregon today for their final game of pool play. They were able to pull out a victory in the final innings of the game to win 2-1. Now Waterford has to hope that Southwest beats Latin America to guarantee Waterford a place in the semifinal to be viewed on ESPN.
In today's game Kassie was the winning pitcher. She allowed only one run and walked only 2 in her 6 innings pitched. The one run came in the first inning and after that Kassie shut out Oregon allowing them no more runs.
Waterford scored their 2 runs in the 3rd and 5th innings. The 3rd the inning started with Kate getting a lead off single. Then Alyssa hit a high fly ball to center for the first out of the inning. Hannah then came up and laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Kate to second with 2 outs. Kate advanced to third on a pass ball. Then Kelli hit an RBI single to score Kate for the first run of the game.
The run in the 5th inning came with 2 outs, as well, when Alyssa started the 2 out rally with a shot, in the gap, for a triple. Alyssa then stole home on a pass ball to score the winning run. WAY TO GO EAST!!
