Waterofrd South Takes Game One In Portland!
Aug 08, 2007
Today was Waterford's first game and the first game of the whole World Series. Waterford started out on a good foot with a win against Latin America. The score was 3-0 as Kelli shut out the other team allowing no runs and 7 strike outs. Kelli also went 2 for 3 including an RBI single in the first to score Alyssa. Alyssa led the offense going 2 for 3 with a 2 RBI triple in the second inning, that barley missed clearing the fence, which scored Kate, running for Mary, and Talia. These would be the only runs scored in the game although there were many hits and base runners through out the game. These included Kelli, Hannah, Kassie, and Kate. Waterford's best chance to score was in the 5th when Kelli and Hannah were on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Kassie came up and hit a ground ball to the second baseman who then threw her out at 1st. Then the 1st baseman threw it home to try to get Hannah out. Hannah turned around and went back to 3rd, but was still tagged out. Then the 3rd baseman threw it to 2nd to try to get Christine, who was pinch running for Kelli, out. Latin America then tagged Christine for the first, and probably the last, triple play of the World Series. Waterford was able to hold on to their lead, though, in the 6th. Latin America started off the last inning with a bullet to center field. Kate caught it and it nearly took her glove off. The next batter hit it to Hannah and she threw it to Talia for the out. Then with the end of the game one out away, Kelli gave up a single and back to back walks, this loaded the bases. The next batter then hit the ball to Hannah who was able to throw her out at first for the last out to end game one with a victory. GO WATERFORD!
