The alarm clock was set at 5 am this morning so that we could start the ascent of Mount Jebel Toubkal in the dark (why not?). My first observation was that the wind at 3100m (at the refuge) could almost tear off a tree. Was there a risk at the top, a thousand meter higher? After a quick check with my guide Hassan, I was reassured. Yet, it is to be noticed that Hassan does not speak perfect English and would most of the time answer questions with yes. No further explanation would then be provided. Such a straightforward and positive person. I also very quickly noticed, during the first minutes of the climb that winter had started, also in Morrocco. Hassan did not seem to mind, either. Blind trust in Hassan did not, however, help much against icy or snowy steep slopes. Temperatures were dropping while climbing (my water in fact was frozen) and winds were so noisy as to prevent any communication between me and my fearless guide. The climb appeared also much more technical than I thought, which was good fun now that I think of it, safely back in Marrakech after 9 hours of hiking and 4 hours of public transports to get back from the High Atlas. But frankly, it was a scary day! And such a reward when one gets to the top of the mountain with a view on the sahara on the right and the Atlantic coast on the left hand side.
Ps. And, of course, thanks to Hassan for the great job of keeping me alive!

I think the St Peter's story may have been useful in that circumstance, INNIT?
