Salzburg is known primarily for two things: Mozart and The Sound of Music. Mozart was born here and it's quite remarkable how nearly every object in town is branded with his name or image in some way. This despite the fact that the city barely supported him during his life. In any case, I can provide one piece of very valuable information to anyone reading this who may be coming to Salzburg: don't arrive on Mozart's birthday. Oy vey!!

The few things that aren't stamped with Mozart's image are in some way connected with TSoM. There are loads of tours you can take or concerts you can go to. All of the images have made me think of two people a lot:

My grandmother used to always sing Do Re Mi from the musical often, but mostly in the car. I would usually be in the back seat with a couple other grandkids (I'm sure they were causing trouble and I was doing my best to keep everyone out of trouble) and she would start singing it. She'd only get a few words out before we were all singing along.

I reunited with a good friend from high school a few years ago in North Carolina. Lynetta was performing the lead in TSoM there for the season and it was great to see her again! She has since married, moved to Wisconsin and is preggers! I got the news on this trip so she's probably due soon....drop me a line and let me know how things are Lynetta!

All in all I had a good time in Salzburg despite the rain. I went to three different gay establishments over two nights and very much enjoyed them all. Salzburg is also full of great shoe stores. Are these two things mutually exclusive? I think not! In any case, someone alert Michelle May as I'm certain she'll be on the next flight over.
