Ceský Krumlov is another wonderful place. In the southern stretches of Bohemia, CK has been described by many as a Prague in miniature. The old city is nearly completely surrounded by a looping bend in the Vltava River and watched over by CK Castle. Looking down on the old city reveals a mismatch of clay tile roofs and a calm yet swiftly moving river. The backdrop is perhaps a 6-story rock face capped by CK Castle, second in size only to its counterpart in Prague. Behind the castle remarkably green pastures are dotted with maize-colored hay bales rising hgiher and higher until the mountains are covered by deep green evergreen forests. Lovely!
The food here has been WONDERFUL. Some of the best stuff since I've been on the road. I just finished a vegetarian dinner of puffed barley prepared with tons of mushrooms and caramelized onions served with a cabbage salad with sweet corn, peas and marinated red and orange peppers. Y U M !!! Add on three great beers and my $6USD meal was happily completed.
The weather here has been quite strange. It has been quite cold during the days and I find myself shivering even with two shirts and long pants. Some freaks still raft / canoe down the Vltava - I can't see how they are having a good time as they look blue as they cruise through town.
I'm having trouble finding a decent place to stay in Salzburg, so I may cut my time there short. On to Austria tomorrow!
