After much hard work, I've successfully documented the best operating practice for obtaining a tan.
Step 1: Take off all your clothes - ALL of them.
Step 2: Rub yourself down with a good tanning lotion, preferably one with a minimum protection of about 6 SPF.
Step 3: Lay in the sun for at least six hours each day.
It is a well-proven formula that can't go wrong. Seriously, I never removed quite all of my clothes and I have started thinking of myself as a prude because of it. I've seen more hoo-haas and packages flopping around in the past week than...well...I've ever seen in one place in one time. I've found the extreme opposite to the Middle East where women wear gloves to prevent showing any skin at all.
I must say that I fit in better here.
The Greek Isles have been a great vacation for me. Travelling is like a job sometimes and I needed some time to really relax. Santorini and Mykonos have provided a great break. I'm staying on Paradise Beach but have been taking a boat to Super Paradise Beach where anything goes nearly every day. I've met several fun people on the beach but haven't really gone out too much. I headed to Hora (the main city on Mykonos) to party one night but it really wasn't my scene. The gay clubs were just too....gay. The relaxing time on the beach and having drinks in smaller places have been more my speed while I'm here.
I'm headed on the overnight ferry tomorrow night back to Athens before moving on (I really haven't decided where I'm going next...I'm going to rock up at a travel agent when I arrive and play bus/train roulette). I'm headed north to either Bulgaria or Macedonia or Albania. Any recommendations?
Gotta run...too much beach and too little time.
P.S. - 7/13/06
A few days later, and I've just arrived in Thessaloniki in northern Greece. I went out one more night to try a different club and met some good people. I was particularly distracted by one 6' Swede which led to my delayed departure from Mykonos for a few days. Life is good. :-)
Two days of distraction in Mykonos + an overnight ferry to Athens + a seven hour train ride to Thessaloniki = a very tired Rodney. So far T'niki seems nice...very trendy. I may stay for a few days. I'm still working out the plan to make it to Thailand in only five weeks to meet Lee & Jerramy.

Rodney,
You BGF thinks that you are fabulous and I have been living vicariuously through you for the past few months. I wish I were there in Greece hanging out with you, well my goods wouldn't be hanging out. :-) I know that you may feel far away but I know that we are there with you in spirit and watching over you from afar. Happy and Safe travels
