Flag of Turkey  , Antalya Province,

Poets and scholars have tried to describe the color of The Med for an eternity - there's no possibility that I could do it justice. It is without question like no place I've ever been. The blueness is much deeper than that of the Caribbean and is much clearer - cleaner - sparkling than....any place.

I am truly speechless and grasping for something to include within this entry. Our first night out was cloudless and there was only the tiniest sliver of a moon. As a result the stars were countless and intense. I lay on the deck of our boat with a beer and gazed for hours with only the faint rhythmic waves in the background. Three shooting stars darted across the sky within just a few minutes of each other.

The Turkish coast is stunning. To call it rocky would be an understatement. It is simply rock. Gray and green shrubs cover and dot the mountainsides that fall steeply into the blue water.

I couldn't get enough.

So...I didn't get off the boat in Olympos, but instead did the round trip back to Fethiye!! Six nights and seven days on the water were just what the doctor ordered. What a time! The trips were quite different - the trip out was a party boat of 20 and we did a LOT of partying. The group coming back was only 11 strong and were much more chilled. Great recovery time from my previous cruise.

I can't say enough...a Blue Cruise is a MUST when on holiday in Turkey. A brief day-by-day is below:

Day 1
Departure from Fethiye Harbour at midday to Samanlik Bay for swimming & lunch. Butterfly Valley is our next stop for a swim & to visit this natural reserve, hosting 136 kinds of different butterflies and moths. Afterwards we cruise to Ölüdeniz (The Blue Lagoon). Last stop of the day is St. Nicholas Island. Visit the Byzantine ruins, swim, dinner & 1st night.

Day 2
Around sunrise departure to Aquarium or Firnaz Bay near Kalkan for breakfast & swimming. Cruising to Kaş where we stop in the harbor for lunch & visit this charming fishing village. Of ancient Antiphellos, as Kaş was once known, only Lycian rock tombs & sarcophagi and the Roman theater are left. But the charm of the town remains! In a bay near Kekova we stop for swimming, dinner & the 2nd night.

Day 3
Breakfast. Departure to Sunken City of Kekova (this Lycian-Roman archaeological site is protected, so only looking!). Simana, a traditional Turkish fishing village with no car access and Byzantine/Ottoman castle. In Gökkaya Bay water sports are available. Dinner, relax in this pirate's haven or party the night away at the Smugglers Inn (we chose the latter).

Day 4
After breakfast we have a look at the Pirate's Cave before cruising to Andriace harbor (lunch). This is where I met the new crew and did the whole thing in reverse!

I really didn't couldn't be bothered to take too many pics, but a few are uploaded.

Sounds and looks completely unreal. Wish I were there. How about some updates on what's coming up? Perhaps looking ahead ruins the fun :-)
