We arrived in the quaint little town of Santa Rosa De Copan upon our first taste of the Hondurean public transport system. Turns out that the bus we were on was not one used everyday and on many routes - it was a brand new, modern bus with aircon and comfortable, reclining seats. This, as it would later turn out, was definitely not how all busses in Honduras would be.
Back to Santa Rosa. Stepping out of the bus onto the outskirts of the town, our first impressions were that of a sparsely populated, disorganised shanty town. This quickly changed once we arrived at the manicured gardens in the center of the main church square. We wondered around the cobbled streets until finding ourselves a fantastic hotel room in a rather upmarket hotel. It was slightly over budget, but when converting to pounds we just couldnīt resist "splashing out" after our rough night in San Pedro Sula. We spent the rest of the afternoon wondering around the town looking at shops and visiting the local (simple but sufficent) market at a very leisurely pace. That evening we watched the sunset from the roof terrace of our hotel, which had stunning views across the roof tops of the town looking towards the mountains surrounding it.
The next morning we visited the parts of the town we hadnīt seen the day before, and decided weīd pretty much seen all that was on offer. We packed up our gear and headed back to the bus station to catch another heading towards a village called Gracias...
