We boarded the ferry "Evangelistas" in Puerto Montt, where the 4 day journey through the Patagonian channels and fjords, open seas and past glaciers began.

The scenery was spectacluar, and photo's don't really do it any justice. We spent many hours up on deck looking at the coastline & islands, or in the bridge making sure the captain was doing a good job! Most of the time the ferry stuck to the patagonian channels, where the water was protected and the sailing smooth. On the second day we had to head out into the pacific, where the waves reached grade 6 (of a maximum 12), so many passengers were seasick that day. Luckily I was spared!

On the third day we actually could make landfall in a small town called Puerto Eden, where we spent 40 minutes walking around and enjoying the feeling of firm ground under our feet. Later that afternoon we were treated to a truly spectacular sight, the Pio XI Glacier. It is the largest glacier in the southern hemisphere. It is 6 km wide 75 meters high. Its length from its origin in the Ice Fields is 60 kilometers.

On our final evening on the ferry we were treated to live music and a bingo night, after which everyone had a great party into the early hours of the morning. The day, around lunchtime, we arrived at Puerto Natales.
