. In my broken Spanish I asked a young policeman if he enjoyed his posting at the top out of the city and he smiled and said he was just up for 1 day as they rotate the staff. Overall the police presence is excellent in Bogota and it's reassuring to know both Colombians and tourists in Bogota have good reason to feel much safer here than just a few years ago.
Team Guadalupe were treated to some impromptu music from a guest and Hotel staff in the courtyard, one of those special moments you always look forward to when travelling in a new country. Team Musica were treated to hot water in the showers on the second day, yah! Kelly presented their host with a Canadian flag, International Wheelchair pin and a round of the Canadian anthem from the group. Another special moment and truly a highlight for the young man in his Hotel hosting career, on his way to becoming an accomplished musician. The group is off to Cucuta tomorrow and look forward to the main reason why we are all here.
A whirlwind tour of Bogota filled with long walks along Carrera 7, visits to the Gold Museum, Botero Museum and a beautiful trip up to Mt. Serrate. After playing pin the tail on the donkey for a day or two the whole group assembles for the first time. With a group of 14 it' s sometimes just a matter of " follow those people in the lead, they must know where we're going" or not... This is also known as the "Rotary Bogota shuffle"....Everyone agreed the Oro (Gold ) museum was outstanding and truly an amazing collection of artifacts, history and ancient techniques of craftsmanship on display. To be able to take in that much history condensed into just a few hours was incredible. The trip up to Mt Serrate began with a good hike uphill to the base of the cable car and an exciting ride up to the top with stunning views of Bogota and surrounding mountains. Bogota is at around 8500 feet, Mt Serrate is a further 1000 feet or so up and really a special place for the locals and visitors alike to pay their respects, get away from the city for a day and take in the incredible views
