Today we started to get even closer to the east coast now that we crossed the Mississippi into Illinois. We had a usual start this morning except that we got held up thanks to the 100s of bugs that got all over the outside and inside of the Queen. It was so gross, plus many of them were still alive. They looked almost like dragonflies mixed with a moth. Thankfully for Amber and I, the Miller brothers were brave enough to go exterminate for us and bring it back with most of them gone. We then quickly caught up to the riders with the luggage and drove on to the hotel. We only stopped once along the way which was when I first noticed that the Queen's engine wasn't starting with the first turn of the key. It took me about 3 times to get it to start and come dinner time, I couldn't get it to start at all. Apparently there is a fuse problem so hopefully we can get it fixed sometime soon. After we arrived at the Heritage Grand (not so grand by the way) we waited for a bit to have a room for luggage. I was able to take a quick nap too which was awesome considering I got very little sleep last night. State Farm put on a great dinner/party for us at Fort Madison complete with live music, great food and an open bar for the vets. Needless to say, vets plus free alcohol equals a late night for staff. Once we dropped off luggage, we went out to lunch at El Mexican which ended up being surprisingly delicious. By then, we had just enough time to collect all the keys for both hotels we are in tonight and meet up with the riders at Jones Park where they had a short reception for the riders. We had a fish fry at the American Legion for dinner and I made myself at least attempt the catfish. I only had one bite though before I gave up and stuck to the sides. Tomorrow will be a great day too because we have a very late start due to our 25 mile day. I get to sleep in until 8! Can't wait for the 4th either.
