Guten tag von Leipzig. Breakneck shcedule from Ely to Stanstead then to Leipzig. I arrived with a few Euros in my pocket late at night. I needed to get a ticket from the airport to Leipzig. At midnight the station was deserted and I could not get the vending machine to work. Fortunately two kind locals helped me out.
Leipzig has an air of a city going under grand transformation. Maybe the world cup in 2006 gave a much needed fillip to the city's development. The train station is huge and quite impressive. Many of its socialist-era buildings are replaced by new constructions. Two museums deal with the Socialist-era and are worth checking out. Leipzig has beauful parks encircling the city.
Stereotypes about Germans in the English-speaking world ought to be challenged. They tell us more about the psyche of the English-speaking world, perhaps. I do not find German "ugly" sounding. It is quite rhythmical. The Germans have the notority for being cold and unfriendly. I found them most polite and friendly. Just a few words of German and a smile get you very far. Even my kaputt German is enough to win the locals` hearts.
