Avignon, France - thursday 10/6/10
Sadly today we leave lauterbrunnen and head back to Avignon. We both agree that it was the most beautiful place we had ever seen.
Avignon is basically a great walled medieval town, complete with towers and turrets for the archers. It hold the ex-palace of the pope back in the days before the Vatican was head honcho. Beautiful small windy streets and wonderful cuisine at a very good price, although I was still unable to find my frogs legs or 'cuisse de granuille' as it is called. The cathedral is impressive for such a small town and the treasury inside was stunning with clothing and religious artifacts from the 12th century, and what I believe is Pope John XXII's tomb!
We just had a quiet one tonight with yet another bottle of red. Managed to get a load of washing done today so fresh clothes for tomorrow!! Yay!
