Got my fist injury digging for my ticket, yes I was late for the plane, I shredded my finger, compliments of my razor. So bleeding to death smelling like 10 mine workers (that's the politically correct version) from all the running with a bag that weighed in at around 24kgs (that's excluding my hand luggage, I'm convinced weighs more, well almost). Made the plane to find this round American with a walrus moustache wedged between the seats frantically looking for something, the something turned out to be his heart pills. He said he was going to have a heart attack if he didn't find his pills. I'm wasn't sure if not taking the pills or not finding them would give him a heart attack. He didn't have a heart attack and he found his pills. Turns out he's a therapist working in prisons. We got chatting about America his summary was: the Americans are a people living in the 19th century in terms of cultural views and religion with a 22nd century economy and technology. His example, in certain towns in the states kids under 18 need written permission from their parents to take certain book out from the library. You would think this would be confined to the likes of Alister Crowlys works but no the all evil, all satanic Harry Potter novels have a prime spot on the black list.
Singapore is nice, efficient and just a bit to clean. I think this place is set up for the older more socially conscious type of tourist. In fact it's almost as if it's been set up for tourists altogether, kind of like a big sun city (big South African gambling resort) without the old ducks yanking at the machines. Kind of surprising that you keep on bumping into locals. It took me about an hour wandering the streets for accommodation until I spotted my first piece of litter what a relief.
This place is definitely for the fashion conscious, the whine and diners, the theatres goers, G&T at raffles hotel, slow boat rides down the river etc. The zoo is dubbed the luxury hotel for animals and it is pretty amazing if you like animals in cages. Bumped into some sort of religious festival (I still haven't worked out what religion) but they know how to make a big noise for little Chinese. Pretty lively bunch some with spikes stuck through them running around, or falling around in a trance from alter to alter offering fruit doing a ritual jig and drinking some liquid that looked suspiciously like strong spirits. Drummers, a convoy decorated of trucks, dragon on stick and a few brightly decorated spinning chairs are thrown in. I'll post the photos when I get the chance. Didn't get many cause me flash was sooooo slooooow the batteries where just about flat.
