Day 30

Well today is my birthday, so this will more than likely be a mindless rambling for a while  Today I am 25.  That's about 9129 days on this planet.  Can't remember how many leap years there were in that time.  From 9/22/01 I have remained sober for 1733 days consecutively.  I have never dreamed of a life like this.  A quarter of a century marked in Europe travelling between Berlin and Amsterdam.  I guess I could look at other accomplishments completed.  48 states visited.  14 countries, which will increase by the end of the trip, graduated from college, bought and sold a property, loved, lost, loved again.  Owned a few cars, had a couple jobs, met a bunch of great people, saw some great shows, and a few bad ones, have a dog, read a lot of books, and all the other stuff that goes along with life.  I yearn to see more though.  I have no idea what the next day brings.  All I can ask is for the rest of my time on this earth to be just as good, and just as interesting.  I pray I can do what is right with this life, and I don't look back with too many regrets.  With that I say thank you to life and whatever the hell it wants to bring next.  With that I am done with my sappy side note.

Woke up after a fairly crappy evening due to the hooligans next door.  Day started early in order to catch the train.  Headed for Amsterdam.  Got there and headed off to find where we were staying, which was at some random woman's house.  18 tram stops later we got off.  Found the house and went back towards the city.  Walked around Vondelpark for a while.  Found the "Coffee shops" where I looked but didn't touch and walked around the city centre for some time.  Went into the sex museum to kill some more time, and have to say there are some pretty interesting exhibits in there, covering a number of years.  Came out and went to the red light district.  It's odd to see the girls in the windows.  Have to wonder how and why they want to be there.  There is a noticeable element of crime here, first time I have really seen it since travelling, as we have been in the more touristy areas.  Headed back in for the evening.

Places: Berlin, Germany ;  Amsterdam, Holland

Day 31

Woke up late today.  It was raining.  Sat in bed and watched a movie till mid-afternoon.  Went in to town and went to the Anne Frank House.  Seemed so sterile.  Something about it.  Walked around Chinatown, and some tourist sections before heading out to a meeting.  They are alive and well here.  Went out to dinner at a Chinese restaurant after that before another stroll through the red light district.  It gets dark around 11pm, really throws a person off.

Quote of the day: "Its to bad your not here for longer.  I'd really like to photograph you.  You have a wonderful profile, and that's coming from a professional." - woman at a meeting

Day 32

Again another late rise.  Its nice to relax a little.  Came in to town to see some churches.  Went to St Nikolas a rather interesting old church.  Catholicism was illegal for a while, but when it became legal again they built this large church.  Went to "Old Church" afterwards which was surrounded by prostitutes in the red light district.   Rembrandt's wife is buried there with 10,000 others under the church floor.  Went to the PIC next or the prostitute information center.  They had lots of little did-bits available about the history of the area.  Journeyed out to a large windmill and while taking pictures Jacky's camera feel into a canal.  Many pictures were lost.  Went back into the centre and reported it to the police.  Walked around the red light district again and went back to the house.   Never did I partake in the women or drugs, just watched, but its an interesting show.
