Lisbon, Portugal

Again, I cant say enough how much I love Portugal and Lisbon is no exception. It is a tiny city considering it is the capital of Portugal but, with that said, there is still tons to do and plenty to see. We arrived to a great hostel called the Lisbon Lounge and it is probably the nicest place we have stayed so far. It is in the center of town right below the Barrio Alto and within walking distance of just about everything. It is also extremely clean and only 20 Euros a night. Again, Portugal is cheap so there are cheaper hostels but I cant imagine any of them are as nice as this one.

Our first night in Lisbon, we wandered around the main drag and then had dinner in the Bario Alto. We had a great meal for 25 Euro a piece that included wine, salad, appetizer, bread, water, our main entree, and dessert with tax and tip. We just eat like kings and dont feel bad about it because we practically got a donner kebab for the same prices in Switzerland. We then went to a small Brazilian bar and tried the local drink in Lisbon(which has a huge Brazilian population) which is Cacha, a liquor made from cane sugar. It reminds me of a mix between rum and tequila and is extremely popular here with the locals. We see it offered everywhere and although it wasnt my favorite, it was worth the 3 Euros just to say I have tried it.

We went to sleep resonably early again still trying to recover from a whirlwind week and woke up this morning at 9, the latest we have slept in a long while. We again had a cheap breakfast of pastries and coffee before going to the big castle overlooking the city of Lisbon. We took some great pictures and then headed down a side street for another good/cheap lunch. There is just no beating the cheap food here in Portugal. Tonight we are going to check our the Belem neighboorhood with supposedly the best pastries in Portugal and then we are going to cook our own dinner and watch the soccer games. The World Cup is almost over, so it would be nice to watch as much soccer as we can.
