Where do I even start with Amsterdam. I will begin with saying that it is just as if not more crazy than I had expected. We first arrived midday in Amsterdam and it turns out that our hostel is in the heart of the Red light district, so take that as you will, it could be very good or very bad. We dropped our bags off at our hostel, dirty nellys (apperently they even know he is dirty over here), and ventured out to explore. There are smoke shops or as they are referred to here, coffee shops everywhere. Their has to be 50 of them within a miles radius and they are all filled with people smoking and drinking. Its rather amazing that this city gets anything done. We walked around, had a couple of drinks and then noticed all of these little alley ways that you could walk down and look at at prostitutes do dances and things to draw you in. We even had a couple of them grab us and try to pull us in or wack us with toys. It was a really ackward experience because although we were only looking, it still made us feel dirty. We also visited the Anne Frank museum which turned out to be very good. For those of you who dont know, Anne Frank was a young girl who stayed in hiding with the rest of her family in her fathers spice factory for two years during WWII and wrote in a journal during these years. We walked through the actual house and went through the book case door and saw where they actually ate and slept. It was a very awakening experience. Amsterdam was definately a new and exciting experience but after a day and a half I was ready to leave. To many American 18 year olds there on holiday. But over all it was a very good trip. Now we are off to Rotterdam, Europes biggest port.
