After enjoying London for about a month it was time for me to hit the road again! I headed over to little Denmark as a surprise for my host mum's birthday, I used to live in Denmark as an exchange student back in 1998. I arrived in Aarhus to stay with Lisbeth and her family for a couple of days, before heading to where I used to live, for the birthday celebrations. Lisbeth was an exchange student who lived with us in Canberra back in 1990, and it was fanstastic to finally meet her children and spend some time catching up while enjoying the Danish summer with her her husband Dennis and the kids.
After that I headed west and was greeted by Jacob and Sine ( my host siblings) and Ebba ( a cousin of Kirsten's from Canada). Arriving in Denmark have given me a real feeling of arriving back home! It had been a long time since I'd left and it was fantastic to be back. Seeing me walk through the front door of 'our' house couldn't have been further from my host mum's, Kirsten, imagination! So after lots of hugs and kisses and more hugs and kisses there was no time to waste before the combined 50th Birthday party was to begin. Endless beers and two pigs on the spit were just some of the things this party was filled with. The dancing was another story............

For the next three months I criss-crossed the country side of Denmark, catching up with old school friends and spending time with Lisbeth, Dennis and the kids. I also met up with the lovely Stine and hung out with her. During this time, I saw the Queen come to town with her horse and carriage entourage for the first time in twenty something years, I worked with Peter in the fish factory and chilled out at home with Peter and Kirsten. Being back and enjoying the sights and sounds of DK was fantastic. Getting my tongue around the language again was also a great laugh.

It's now time to drop down to Germany and catch up with a mate.

Hello hairy stranger
Gidday Mr Gowland! I have been thinking of you from time to time, wondering what crazy adventures you are getting yourself into. Sounds so much fun. I am doing two days a week at school, one of them as Hari's fill-in with Kinder whilst she plays Level 2 bigwig. Kinder sure keeps you busy! Speaking of busy, I will be even more so soon, with baby boy number two arriving mid August, just in case no one told you and you get a shock to find me with two children when you return...
Glad to hear that you are fitting in time with your old host family - what an excellent thing to do. Cheers! Lib
