What can I say about Biarritz...except I could live, grow old, and die there.
This town of 30,000 people is a bit of a secret....
It's beautiful to look at and fun to be in. I described it as a big amusement park. Surfing, cliff jumping, fishing, hiking trails, excellent vantage points.... and my travel book says its expensive but its not!
Andrew and I stayed at a HI (Hostel Inernational) hostel just outside of the city centre...the hostel is nice (good food, cheap beer, and great videos of big wave surfing) but our rooms were freaking hot (12 people in one room!). I didn't sleep that well here...but each morning we were up early to go surfin!
We rented boards and took turns using it..b/c you can only go for 30-40min at a time...We were both up and surfing like pros (right..) in no time... The first day the waters were calm and though the waves were big, they were less frequent than usual I think. The SECOND day there was a storm in the morning that got the waters just wild...very choppy and BIG waves.. It was a struggle to manage the big board out there! We switched to a smaller board, which is harder to ride but easier to manage...and I preferred that. Anyway, enough about surfing!
We went to a Casino where I stretched 5EUROS as far as I could...
Did some shopping...
Lots of walking...
I jumped off a cliff that I shouldn't have... (it turned out to be like 6 or 7 feet deep! but sand)
Anyway, since leaving Biarritz, I find myself missing it... and looking forward to the beach and the waves in Australia!
