Having acquired a healthy taste of France and specifically southern France, Andrew and I made the last minute decision of going into Italy rather than staying in Nice. While still on the Riviera, we did some research and made some phone calls and were on set to go to Cinque Terre in Italy...I only mention this because it was an exhausting experience..... I'll talk about Cinque Terre in the next entry, which will be a good one!! :)
Anyway... we met Andrew's friend, Lola, and her family, and her pet hog, Punchetta. Lola's father hunts Sanglier (french for wild hog) so they began raising a hog with the intention of eating it (Punchetta is the name of a specific cut of hog meat!). But the family is now attached to Punchetta (they now call it Lola's little sister) and will never eat it.
Since Lola had a car, we were able to visit Les Arcs, St Raphael, Cannes, and Antibes, and enjoy the scenery along the way. We met up with a friend of Lola's so it was really a good day.
In Cannes we did not see any celebrities but in a nearby town Kid Rock and Pam Anderson were married.
Sting:
Also in Cannes, Lola and I went swimming. There were many people swimming and some of them were walking along these submerged rocks. I went over and found myself stepping in very deep sludge, a sludge that was very foreign to me. I immediately sensed that something was wrong and I flattened out as high on the water as possible, while trying to swim away. I could feel a lot of things on me and I didn't really like it, because in various spots if started to hurt... I remember pulling a few things off sort of frantically and in the end I was stung by Jelly Fish on my left arm and my left leg (a lot there). No worries, just got cream on it and put up with a bit of pain for a few days. Its still visible but will soon be gone.
I must again mention how good Lola and her family were to us...We wanted to thank them and bought a bottle of Rosé... and when we gave it to them, we found out that they had left 2 bottles for us on our bed!
Now... Cinque Terre!!!
