Just when I was getting used to living in Samoa again, Peace Corps wants to fly me back to the States. This isn't something that I was anticipating at all, but I'm going along with it. Let me explain.
When I got back in country 2 weeks ago I wasn't doing well. I talked to the medical officer here, and she told me that counseling was not available here. The next day she told me that she had run into a Samoan woman who has done counseling for Volunteers in the past. So I signed up for a session last week. It went well. My follow-up session is later this afternoon. However, the medical officer had me talk with a counselor from Washington D.C. Monday. After the hour-long phone interview, his recommendation was to fly me into D.C. for some personal sessions. That request got approved my the Peace Corps medical staff in D.C. Tuesday. I fly out Sunday night and arrive Monday night. I'll be there for 6 weeks.
It sounds like it will be fun. We will find out who Ryan is and what he wants from life. And I get put up at the Virginian Hotel. I can't possibly see how we would spend more than a couple hours a day in session, so I'll have more free time there than I do here. So, if you happen to know someone in the D.C. area that I may be able to hook up with, let me/him/her know. Or if you will be in the area at all through the end of April, maybe we could hang out. I look forward to returning in late April. I'll keep you updated on where I am and what I am doing.
