Ancient Greece or Out of the Boat into Grease
Entry 20 of 31 | show all | print this entry |
Greece and Athens Today was our whirlwind tour of Athens and the Greek buildings of historical significance. Our trip took us past the 2004 Olympic buildings with a stop at the 1896 Olympic Stadium. The first of the modern games. Then it was off to the historical centerpiece of Athens (and Greece). The Parthenon and the Agora. We trudged up the path (really quite an easy walk the only section with steep steps are right near the top). The whole site is under re-construction and restoration so there are scaffolds everywhere and covering almost all of the walls of the Parthenon and a number of the lesser temples including the "amphi-theatres". Again I have taken many, many pictures. We then went to the museum holding many items and statues reflecting the many periods of Greek history. Then Lunch - typical Greek food and SA there wasn't a good Greek Salad. Have to Run now so I can send this while we are still in Port. The internet runs faster in port. Tomorrow we hit our first Turkish stop.
Where I stayed:
