We took a private ferry tour over to Delos Island where the ruins of the city lie that was the home of  Zeus and the birthplace of  Appolo and his twin sister Diana (Athena). The city is now in ruins (of course) but at one time it must have been a beautiful city all made out of white marble with columns and statues of the Greek gods all over the place and an amphitheatre as well as a city wide sewer system and individual wells for all of the houses.  Narrow streets leading up-hill from the sea.  Really quite an accomplishment when you realize that all of this was built some 2 to 3 thousand years before Christ. However, if you look carefully the current, modern-day Greek sewer facilities haven't really changed all that much in 5000 years.  The crap still runs downhill and the only bathroom on the island is on the ferry we came over on and there is only one on the ferry.
