Today was a sight seeing day. As I said in yesterdays blog we planned to see Rijeka, Opatija and Pula (three coastal towns). Well we managed to see only two, Pula and Opatija due to the rain. :-(
We took the freeway to Pula and took the coastal road on the way back.
It was raining all the way to Pula but when we arrived the rain stopped so that we can make some photos. I didn't know that in Pula they had a "Colosseum". In addition they had many other Roman architecture remains (like Roman theatre and the Arch). I guess that makes sense as it is close to Italy. We spent about 3 hours there and it was the time well spent.
About 3pm we left Pula and took the coastal way to get to Opatija. The road was along the coast and the views were spectacular (see photos)

. I was annoying my father in law every couple of kilometers to stop for me to take some photos. I can say that Croatian coast is much nicer than I ever thought - It has been at least 18 years since I have been at the coast and I am pleasantly surprised.Around 4:30pm we arrived in Opatija - another coastal town about 20kms from Rijeka. This town was awesome. It looks like it was built just to be a tourist town but people live here too. The gardens were great, flowers beautiful and the architecture was stunning. This town has heaps of 4 and 5 star hotels and is situated in a beautiful spot.
The only thing that stuffed us up a bit was the rain. When we arrived there the rain was pouring down. So if some of the photos were a bit dark - that's the reason. But then again, while it was raining we just sat in front of a hotel and taaaarrraaaaa there was unsecured wireless Internet access. So we did the blog from the day before. :-)
Due to the weather, guess what the girls did... yes you guessed it - SHOPPING!!! Roxy was the spoiled one today - everything we bought today was for her. :-P While Roxy was doing her beloved shopping my father in law and me went through the town to see what is there. We stayed a little longer that the girls expected and we ended up chasing each other all over town until we found each other and yes we were totally drenched. ;-)
Just after sunset the skies cleared and there was not a cloud! Tough luck I guess! :-)
So all in all we saw some great things and despite a little rain we had another good day.
Tomorrow is the beach day and the forecast is sun, sun and more sun. We are looking toward some relaxation time.
