Yesterday and today we've been touring the Northern Parts of Romania. In one of the photos you will see a map showing how close we were to Ukraine border.
We were passing through many mountains forming tke Carpathians Mountain Ranges.
The first stop was in Vatra Dornei where Roxy's dads family comes from. The family gathered at grandma's place where we ate and talked. After a while we went to sleep at Roxy's uncle's place (next door to grandma's place).
In the morning we were in no hurry to get out of the bed and we bludged. After breakfast we said our goodbyes (which took 3 hours :-) ) and we were on our way around 13pm. Roxy's uncle with his wife and one of his daughters was our tour guide and went with us sight seeing.
The area that we passed through was very nice (see photos). It was too bad that the weather wasn't better. The other thing is that all the roads in the area are being totally rebuilt (touristic areas) and this created quite a bit of traffic. I didn't mind as I had more opportunities to take the photos :-).
People from the villages were selling various berries from the forrests on the side of the road and we stopped to buy some raspberries (Roxy loves them and so do I). We visited two monestaries Moldovita and Suceavita-the biggest monestary in Romaina where it is believed that Roxy's dad's family originated. The story is that 3 brothers from Macedonia came there. One of the went out of the monestary and got married and hence started the Magopat family.
We also visited the grave of Roxy's grand Grandfather.
Further on we visited a village called Marginea (see photos). This is the town where more of the Magopat family lives. The town is renowned for the pottery they produce and guess who is doing it - THE MAGOPAT FAMILY. They go on international exibitions and competitions. We had the priviledge of observing as they were creating clay pots. We also bought a few artefacts for us.
I didn't know that my wife comes from such a "famous" family. :-)
From there we went to a place called Radauti where we ate (we had no lunch!!!). Have a look at the photo of the size of the pizzas!!!. The bill for 7 people was about $40 Australian which I thought was not too bad.
After dinner we said bye to uncle and his family. Then we were on our way back to Piatra Neamt (Roxy's home town).
It was a great road trip and we enjoyed every bit of it. You should all come for a holiday here. :-)
