In one day we looked out the plane window in Cairo and saw the Mohamed Ali Mosque, central to the Arab world for so many years, and just hours later were starring at giant TV screen of the Pope giving mass in St. Peter's Basilica. What was striking about Rome was how they continued where the Egyptians left off. They were world hegemony for a few hundred years and borrowed and built many similar looking structures as the Egyptians. They also incorporated some of the obelisks and other monuments into their capital city.
Landing in Rome and having only 18 hours before we finished our trip back home to Madrid, we decided to stay in the Trastevere district so we could walk in 15 minutes to St. Peters and watch some off the Good Friday mass. We highly recommend our hotel for budgets of around €100. Also, the neighbourhood was very relaxed, not touristy, but it was walking distance to popular sites. The weather was rainy and cold but we still managed to spend 5 hours walking around and taking some pictures in front and around St. Peter's, Piazza Navona, and the Pantheon.
This is my last entry as I need to return to Madrid and focus on exams from the second term of Business School. Email me if you're interested in a few more pictures from our trip to Egypt and Rome, rvkline868@hotmail.com. More thumbnails ...
