KL to Sri Lanka
Trip Start Oct 07, 2010
34Trip End Nov 12, 2010
What to do and how to do it was the next issue on the list however as ever things are subject to change as we were about to find out.
After a good nights sleep at the tunes hotel in KL it was time to get the plane again this time the 0620 Kuala Lumpur to Colombo Sri Lanka Courtesy of Air Asia , by now ive lost track of time but I think we gain 2 hours on the journey as we arrive Colombo at 0720 but who knows , we plan to get the new airport express train from the airport to the town centre because I remember the traffic hell from my previous trip the roads in Sri Lanka are bad especially the ones around Colombo
My luggage has survived as well so alls good except we have missed the airport express train for some reason I thought it went every half hour but apparently it only runs once a day oh well that could only happen in Sri lanka looks like a taxi ride is on the cards.
The airports only 30kms away from down town Colombo but it seems to take forever and the driving is really crazy here could have done with a seatbelt but sadly the car has none great.
Right the objective of today is to book train tickets for the train from Colombo to Badulla & the return trip in two days time from Kandy to Colombo then onwards to Galle simple I doubt it.
Ohh today is splurge hotel got a last minute deal for the Hilton in Colombo with dinner & breakfast for a price I couldn't pass up on , & the room is ready at 9am which is a bonus after a shower it was time to tackle the train station but first we have to find it.
With the train Sorted & spending money obtained from the cashpoint it was time for an explore of the city we went to the national museaum and looked round the old town its hot as hell today , so mid afternoon it was back to the room for a shower then dinner a few beers and looking forward to our 8:25 train to Nuwara Eliya tomorrow morning
As soon as you step out of the hotel you notice the shear heat & smell of Colombo coupled with the fact your number 1 target for conmen , flimflammers , fixers , hawkers tuk tuk drivers its quite eventful hassle hassle hassle I quite like it now a few years ago I might have locked myself in the hotel room but now its all part of the holiday.
The Station at Colombo Fort is about 20 minutes walk from our hotel & once I finally get my bearings it dosnt take long to find it , ive been offered trips , hotels , massages , you name it ive been offered it on route, at the station there is a friendly travel information office where we try and sort our train trips out.
Bad news is tomorrow is Friday the 5th November its Divali a holiday in Sri lanka and the trains we want to catch are all full so its back to the drawing board we have limited time and have hotels already booked in Unawatuna down south so we need to leave tomorrow if we are to explore the hill country.
The information man has an idea there is a Divali relief train running to Nuwara eliya tomorrow morning getting there about 2pm we can then get a car to Kandy and there is room on the Kandy to Colombo train on the 7th Nov as well great he even books us a hotel in Nuwara Eliya for the night great.
