This is the morning of our third day. Yesterday, we had an impressive meeting with Jing Wei, the director of K-12 programs for China. What an impressive young woman! China is implementing an all out, comprehensive, compulsive and free program of education for all students, urban and rural. More on that later.
Our meals have been delicious. In Chinese style, servers bring bowl after bowl and place them on a lazy Susan. Mnay different tastes, but I haven't ventured too far out. My riskiest dish was white fungus in sugar cane sauce for breakfast, and I only had one bite. Our visit to Beijing National Day School was a delight. Beijing National Day School was started by Chou En Lai in 1952. One of my student guides had spent a year in Indiana as an exchange student. He goal was to go to an American University. She was studying very hard for the SAT. Our students are competing against international students for spots in our own universities. We heard a concert by their ocrchestra, one of the top secondary school orchestras in China. Music transcends all cultures!

Wow! Can't wait to hear about the trip. Only 11 pictures posted??? What's this? I am afraid I could probably view 10,000 pictures and still feel cheated... and what about those little tiny cars?

Great start! (reply) Apr 17, 2008 19:27 EST by gmetteta
It sounds like you are off to a great start on your adventure. It's fun hearing about the schools--I will be interested to learn how they compare to ours. Meanwhile, I will be eager to hear about how daring you are during the mealtimes--white fungus might be just the beginning!
