Walking towards the luggage belt at Austin airport, I saw a man standing near the stairs with a signboard spelling: ¨Rutger van Dijk¨. Now.. I´m not someone to ignore signs, so I reported after a quick think and it turned out to be Eliot´s girlfriend´s father. I had arranged with Rachel (Eliot´s girlfriend) to surprise him for his birthday. Apparently she couldn´t make it and had sent her father in stead. He drove me back to their apartment in Austin and we dressed me up as a pirate. Not much later, I was sitting by myself in full pirate gear in a Brazilian restaurant in Austin, waiting to see my best friend, whom I hadn´t seen in 16 months.

¨Haarrrrrrrrrr, nothing is everything m8tey!¨. A minute hug, a surprised Eliot and a content Rutger and Rachel later we sat down and discussed what 16 months of life can do to people. From then on we spent every day together, breakfast, lunch, dinner, share the same bed, the same parties, the same (his) friends..

With Eliot it feels like a natural thing being around him, no arguments, no annoyances and lots of laughter. Day in and day out. No need to impress, so no need to worry :) I´ll remember the month as one with lots of margaritas, playing pool, eating at Sao Paulos, digeridoo, hang, boo-boo the snake and talking about girlfriends, ex-girlfriends, our potential futures, life, work and wordly matters :)

That, plus many nightly adventures, next to many parties, we managed to climb on the roof of a building on the UT campus to sneak into the UT president´s garden late at night (wonderful view!) We rolled down hills with an arm chair. We walked the train bridge while a train was coming, then sneeked down on the middle pillar and had the train roll over us while we were under the track.

I must say I absolutely loved Austin, there are many liberal-thinking students, which gives the city a very relaxed vibe, there is live music everywhere and I must say it is one of the coolest cities I´ve visited so far, but that just might be Eliot's fault ;)

I´ll  be back again soon :)
